In 1985 Leonard and Betty Wahl started making their own frozen pizza. They wanted a women's name for their pizza. Since Bonita means "beautiful' in Spanish, it seemed perfect. Betty drew the beautiful lady, Bonita and she still trademarks every Bonita's pizza today!
In 2000 the couple purchased a building in Hatton, North Dakota. Part of the building was used to make lefsa and the other half to make frozen pizzas. The pizzas were all made by hand! As the lefsa phased out the frozen pizzas took off.
At this point Leonard bought a delivery truck along with 13 accounts, and Betty grew the company. The unique varieties of pizzas kept customers coming back!
In 2015 as the couple reached retirement age the decision was made to sell the business.
Jim & Jan Gordon, owners of the Jimmy's Pizza Franchise, decided after 30 years of business to add a frozen Jimmy's Pizza line in addition to the Bonita's.
Bonita's is still the original recipes. Still proud to be made in North Dakota!
